How to declare a work stoppage?
When you are sick, your work stoppage must be justified by a doctor. It delivers a stop that you must send within 48 hours to your health insurance fund. If it is an accident at work, your employer must declare it as such to the health insurance fund no later than 48 hours after the event. Your doctor gives you a four-part sick leave sheet. You send the first two parts to your health insurance fund, you keep the third and send the fourth to your employer. If you are unemployed on benefits, you must send the corresponding part to the employer to Pôle emploi.
Are there any rules to follow while on sick leave?
Presence at home
When you have declared a work stoppage, your trips are subject to a few conditions:
- no stay outside your department, unless authorized by your doctor;
- you must be at home in the event of an inspection from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
For any trip, you must seek authorization from your primary insurance fund.

You are arrested and any salaried activity would then be sanctioned.
If you work for a competitor during this time, you may be fired for gross misconduct by your employer.
On the other hand, you can work on a voluntary basis or do personal work at home.
How are benefits paid in the event of sick leave?
Your fund compensates you according to a ceiling defined by Social SecurityYour company may complete this compensation according to collective agreements. Depending on your sector of activity, there may be a waiting period (generally three days) before the payment of compensation. You may be checked during your sick leave at the initiative of the Social security or at the request of your employer. You may see part of your compensation withdrawn:
- if your méidacl certificate is unjustified;
- you work or engage in a prohibited activity;
- you moved out of your department.
