Role of the quality technician
Control and supervision
The quality technician’s mission is to control the conformity of the products manufactured in his factory. He checks the machined dimensions of the parts. He ensures that the materials used correspond to the quality requirements. The quality technician also checks that the machines are properly adjusted. He can supervise the sending of the products, after having checked their conformity, and ensure that the customer receives them in good condition.
At the service of the customer
The quality technician verifies that the customer’s requests (compliance with certain standards, specifications, etc.) are respected.
Standards Specialist
The quality technician ensures that all standards and procedures are followed, including safety standards. If this is not the case, it offers solutions to remedy the problems.
It trains production technicians and operators. If the company does not have ISO certification, the quality technician prepares the file (writing of procedures and application) so that it obtains this essential label for selling in France and abroad.

The quality technician can work in many manufacturing sectors. He is in charge of the control of manufactured products: machine parts, manufactured objects, textiles… He can also work in the agri-food sector where he will be in charge of the quality control of food products.

The quality technician can practice his profession in very varied environments, depending on the sector in which he works.
How much does a quality technician earn?
A quality technician earns approximately €1,700 gross monthly at the start of a career. His salary can change significantly over time.
How to become a quality technician?
Training by sector
The quality technician must know his specialty perfectly. The training courses are therefore varied, depending on the area in which the future quality technician wishes to practice.
A BTS or a DUT is generally required. Different formations are possible:
- Technological BTS Science and Laboratory Technologies (STL)
- BTS Bioanalysis and controls
- BTSA Food Industries
- DUT in Biological Engineering, Food and Biological Industries option

What qualities are needed to become a quality technician?
Methodical and meticulous
The quality technician must be methodical, organized and meticulous, even picky: nothing must escape him. He is autonomous and must be able to make important decisions quickly.
Diplomat
The quality technician must be diplomatic but sure of himself in his decisions, which can have very important consequences for the company.
