Candidates for a parliamentary mandate
Employers must allow employees who are candidates for the legislative or senatorial elections the time necessary to participate in the electoral campaign, within the limit of 20 working days.
The same right, within the limit of 10 days per year, is now granted to candidates:
- in the European Parliament;
- to a municipal council of a municipality of at least 3,500 inhabitants;
- to the general or regional council;
- to the Assembly of Corsica.
The employee concerned must inform his employer 24 hours in advance and should take at least half a full day at a time.
Holders of a parliamentary mandate
The employment contract of a parliamentary employee is suspended at his requestprovided that he has been in the company for one year.
Holders of a local mandate
Employees who are members of a municipal, general or regional council are entitled to unpaid leaves of absence to participate in meetings related to their duties.
If these functions are exercised in a city of more than 10,000 inhabitants, they also give rise to a credit for hours of absence which varies according to the importance of the mandate.
Local elected representatives benefit from unpaid training leave of 6 days per year.
Participants in vocational training organizations
Employees sitting on bodies dealing with employment or professional training or participating in a examination board are entitled to a leave of absence to fulfill these functions.
Representatives of family associations
They have a leave of absence 40 hours maximum per year with continued salary.
Representatives of an association or mutual
They are entitled to a leave of absence 9 days a year to take part in the meetings of consultation bodies set up by the State (Economic and Social Council, for example).
The employer is not required to pay these hours. In this case, the employee receives a state compensation.

- employees sitting on the board of directors, on the regional and departmental committees of the Pôle emploi;
- mutual fund administrators;
- jurors and witnesses in a trial;
- employees participating in the aid to victims of natural disasters within the limit of 20 days per year (unpaid).
