There are 2 types of diplomas recognized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Non-professional diplomas
The non-professional diplomas are intended for students who want to try the profession of socio-cultural animator in a summer job:
- the BAFA : Certificate of aptitude for the functions of facilitator. Accessible from the age of 17, it is essential for occasionally supervising children and teenagers on vacation or in a leisure centre;
- the AfDB : Certificate of aptitude for the functions of director. This diploma allows you to run a leisure or holiday center on an occasional basis;
- the BASE : Certificate of aptitude for socio-educational animation. Accessible from 18 years old, with 2 years of experience.
Professional training
Vocational training is compulsory for those who intend to pursue a career in social work:
- the BAPAAT : Certificate of professional aptitude as assistant animator technician. This is the first level of professional qualification, equivalent to the CAP/BEP.
- the BPJEPS : Professional certificate for youth, popular education and sport. This baccalaureate level diploma has 12 specialties. It allows you to become an animator.
- the BREAKFAST : State diploma of youth, popular education and sport. It is a bac + 2 level diploma which allows you to become a facilitator with difficult audiences and to take on a coordination role.
- the DESJEPS : higher state diploma in youth, popular education and sport. This bac +3 level diploma gives access to the functions of structural director, project director or sports director.
- the DUT Social careers, option Social and socio-cultural animation (DS ASSC). It is the only animation diploma that can be prepared in initial training. The training lasts 2 years.
What are the prospects for the profession of socio-cultural animator?
If you hold a level 3 diploma in the social sector, you can prepare the DEIS: state diploma in social engineering.
