The sophrologist helps each patient achieve an objective. They establish work steps together, then the professional proposes effective tools.

The sophrologist therefore establishes a collaboration with each of his clients. He does not operate any psychotherapy, he gives the keys to achieve a goal, by proposing an approach and exercises.
Don’t heal
The sophrologist is in short the one who directs the sessions, to mobilize the capacities of his clients in a positive way, but he does not have the ambition to compete with health professionals.

Often liberal
The sophrologist can be liberal and consult in his own office. He can also work in the associative environment or within medical structures or in companies.
Different forms of sessions
The sophrologist can offer individual sessions or group sessions to his clients. The consultation generally lasts one hour, during which he provides his patients with methods of relaxation and body awareness.
A free exercise
The profession of sophrologist is not regulated in France. The sophrologist can therefore exercise freely, either as a profession in its own right, or as a complementary activity if he is:
- doctor ;
- midwife;
- male nurse ;
- physiotherapist;
- teacher ;
- or sports trainer.
How much does a sophrologist earn?
The sophrologist’s salary is around €2,500 per month.
How to become a sophrologist?
A certificate
In France, there is no state diploma in sophrology, but a sophrology practitioner certificate.
A federation
Schools also offer technical training, most of them teach the Alfonso Caycedo method. They issue a diploma which authorizes the exercise of the profession of sophrologist: the diploma of practitioner in sophrology.
There is a World Federation of Caycedian Sophrology (FMSC).
Qualifications needed to become a sophrologist
Advice
The sophrologist must be able to guide his patients according to their case and their personal situation. He must also know the techniques of sophrology to apply them at best.
Patience
The sophrologist must know how to listen and establish a relationship of trust with his clients. He can also identify them quickly if he knows how to be particularly attentive.
