Summary
Farrier Roles
Shoeing
The farrier must first approach the horses, calm them down and make them obey: a more or less easy task depending on where he is. He is then responsible for:
- care for horses’ hooves;
- remove the old irons;
- put on new irons.
Creation
The horseshoes can be transformed in the factory, but they can also be made by the farrier, on site. Then he transforms this shoe into a sole:
- he adjusts it on the hoof;
- nails it;
- or glue depending on the physiology of the horse and its activity.
General health
The farrier analyzes the problems and defects of the horse’s foot. But it also ensures the more general balance of it. In particular, he can check the hygiene of the horse’s mouth and teeth, in order to avoid problems with chewing, swallowing and digestion.
