The benefits of a personal trainer
Each of us knows how to do a certain number of things and does them very well. However, at some point in their life, everyone may need to progress on professional or personal aspects. Which is not always obvious. It may be a question of better managing one’s anger, of agreeing to be silent, of being afraid to speak in front of one’s boss, of better managing one’s time and one’s priorities… To achieve faster and with less effort satisfactory results, it is possible to call on a coach. Even great actors, politicians or big bosses have been able to use a coach at some point in their lives.
Summary

1 – Talk about it around you, solicit your network
The profession is sufficiently represented today and there is a good chance that one of the people around you or in your network has already dealt with a coach. You will be able to obtain valuable feedback: names, experiences, advice… In short, something to get an idea.
2 – Clearly identify the coaches you are talking to and their knowledge of the subject that interests you
Are you familiar with the important questions to ask a coach? How long has he been practicing his profession? What are his own motivations? Why does he do this job? What is his method? What is the most or the particularity of his type of coaching?
3 – Meet several
It is for you to identify the one with whom you will want to work.
4 – Prepare for the change it causes
In particular questioning your certainties in terms of attitudes, speech, behavior and perception.
5 – The coach is a professional who will allow you to answer your own questions
And this, whatever the order:
- cognitive (perceptions and ideas);
- emotional (which emotions are linked to such a situation, such an action in such an environment);
- or behavioral (which attitudes, which discourse, which posture, etc.).
6 – The first role of the coach is to help you ask yourself precisely the fundamental questions
These are the questions you want answered.
For example : how to make myself better understood the first minute when I speak.
7 – The coach helps you clarify your thinking
This particularly concerns amalgams (work – leisure; colleagues – customers; efficiency – speed) which are not always justified. The role of coaching is to help you see things clearly in your life and take a step back.
8 – The coach listens to you in an often neutral and benevolent way
You can tell him anything, within the limit of verbal and physical decency. He will simply listen and record (notion of receiving 5/5) without any judgement.
Some use different terms to describe the type of coaching they practice: performance, development, crisis coaching…
Ask your coach, over which period you will work together. Remember, this is a true time-bound co-creation process.
9 – The coach as a sparing-partner
The coach can be a good partner to break the loneliness of leaders. Indeed, the leader often leads alone. His direct collaborators are not always ready to hear his dreams, fears, despondency or intense joy.
To draw a parallel with sports coaching. The coach is often used to make you go from a top athlete to a champion.
10 – The coach must allow you to reveal the best in you
The coach is by no means a magician, he reveals and enhances what is in you.
To conclude
Be that as it may, the coaching process is a process of individual transformation that is lived over time. Progress can be lightning fast or much slower. It is a long process that takes time and practice. Know that there are many coaches today in France, each with different training, experiences, methods and tools. Use your intuition to choose and work with the coach with whom you feel good and with whom you want to go a long way to be better at what you have decided.
