In digital in particular, Hymane Ben Aoun observes a new interest from start-ups and scale-ups for this type of experienced profile. The founder of Aravati by Humanskills and president of the Syntec Conseil recruitment committee explains this for three reasons:
- Due to the drop in fundraising, start-ups/scale-ups are becoming less attractive to high-demand tech profiles. As they can no longer raise salaries there, they prefer to join large companies, thus creating an opening in start-ups for more experienced profiles.
- The need for significant managerial experience of these start-ups/scale-ups
- Recruiters receive fewer CVs, so they look at different profiles, with broader criteria
What exactly is an executive with more than 10 years of experience?
If we estimate that a manager begins his career between the ages of 20 and 25, we are therefore talking about young managers from the age of 30-35 and who have worked for 10 years. Among them, Hymane Ben Aoun, distinguishes between those with ten years of management experience and those with around 20 years of management.
“A manager who has accumulated 10 years of experience has been faced with a number of situations. This is the minimum to be prepared for all eventualities, does she analyze. When the twenties are reached, we can speak of height of sight and recoil. Today, managerial experience is much more valued”.
But even with 20 years of management experience, they do not fit into the senior category since they are 40-45 years old: “A person is considered senior from the age of 50, at least that is the opinion of my clients”she says.

The needs of real senior managers are increasing
While companies were previously hesitant to hire seniors because of prejudice, it seems that the wheel is turning.
The situation has almost reversed. Today, my clients with high managerial stakes tell me that they do not want to see candidates under 45 years old. The seniors are holding the course, they have become reassuring.

If, today, all professions are eligible for (very) experienced profiles, some are more sought after than others. Hymane Ben Aoun evokes several of them:
- managers in charge of major transformation projects
- product and marketing oriented profiles “who know how to define a marketing strategy and develop products and services”
- international executives for their different vision
- heads of sales/sales
- executives with marketplace know-how
- and profiles dedicated to omnichannel, that is to say “a field course, with a global vision of a company’s businesses”.
As proof, here are three profiles of seniors appreciated at their fair value:
