A bad position at the desk can cause a lot of pain and physical problems
Improper installation in front of a computer screen can affect his state of health and cause musculoskeletal pain, headaches and visual disturbances, regardless of the time spent working. This is why it is essential to think carefully about its position on the desk, the lighting, the height of the chair, the distance from the peripherals or the size of the monitor.
Position your body well
Body position is essential in front of a computer. An incorrectly positioned screen, a keyboard that is too low or an incorrectly adjusted seat lead to poor body postures and lead to pain in the neck, shoulders or even wrists. Placing your body well supposes:
-
to be installed on a comfortable chair, at a correct distance from the workstation in order to have a straight back;
-
adjust the height of their chair and workstation;
-
to position the screen so that the texts are readable without effort and that the head remains straight and the gaze horizontal;
-
place the keyboard and mouse within arm’s reach so that you can type with your wrists straight, shoulders and elbows relaxed;
-
keep your legs relaxed and your feet on the ground, using a footrest if necessary;
-
to change position frequently so as to limit bodily constraints.
Take breaks every hour
Taking regular breaks is essential. Every hour, it is important to get up, drink and relax, without taking the opportunity to smoke! Do not hesitate to:
-
walking, letting your arms hang down or taking advantage of a telephone call to pace;
-
drink enough so as not to become dehydrated;
-
look away from the screen and opt for an LCD screen if you have to spend long hours in front of your computer;
-
position your screen avoiding the reflections of outside light;
-
adjust the size of the characters so as not to force the view;
-
adjust screen contrast and brightness based on ambient light;
-
adopt a light source in addition to the light emitted by the screen;
-
regularly ventilate the work area.
