Step 1
The purpose of the annual evaluation interview is to take stock of the past year. The goal is not to put you in difficulty but to evaluate, with your line manager, your successes, your failures and your aspirations.
It is also an opportunity for you to discuss with your employer your place within the company.
2nd step
An interview is prepared several days in advance. Obtain your evaluation interview grid and collect useful information (see checklist: preparing for an evaluation interview).
Try to anticipate the questions you might be asked. For example, if you have not achieved your objectives, there is a good chance that you will be told about it in the interview.
step 3
Try not to go into too much detail. For example, you can compare turnover from one year to the next. If they value you, remember to recall the interviews you had with your superior over the year and the conclusions of these.
Once all these elements have been prepared, you are ready for your individual interview.
step 4
During your interview:
- try to remain as neutral as possible;
- avoid being defensive;
- answer sensitive questions and hide nothing;
- objectively expose your strengths and weaknesses, your successes and your stumbling blocks.
The evaluation interview is also the time to express your aspirations: to follow a training course, to have new missions, to obtain a raise or a change of position… It is a good opportunity to address these subjects.
Note: the evaluation interview is a moment of shared listening. So be attentive to your interlocutor for a constructive exchange.
