Different work visas to work in Australia
Several visas are possible to find a job:
- the skilled migrant visa;
- the working holiday visa;
- the visa sponsored by a company (“temporary work skilled visa”).
Skilled work visa
You can apply for a skilled work visa if:
- you are under 45;
- you have a decent level of English (IELTS test required);
- you have strong skills in an area of the SOL list (“Skilled Occupation List”);
- in the last 24 months, you have worked at least 12 months in a position on the SOL list.
Your professional project will be assessed by the Australian authorities according to several criteria :
- your age ;
- your level of English;
- Your level of education ;
- your professional experiences;
- your command of a foreign language other than English;
- your experiences in Australia (study, travel, work);
- your spouse’s skills.
Once obtained, the skilled work visa will be valid for 5 years and will allow you to settle in australiato study or find a job, to benefit from “Medicare” medical assistance and above all from qualify for Australian citizenship after 4 years in the country.
Working holiday visa
You can apply for a working holiday visa if:
- you are between 18 and 30 years old;
- you can justify €2,000 to €3,000 in your bank account;
- you have a valid passport;
- you are in good health ;
- you want to work in Australia for a fixed period of time and then use the remaining time to travel or study.
You can apply for a working holiday visa on the Australian Immigration website, for a (non-refundable) cost of approximately €290 as of 1 January 2013.
Once obtained, the working holiday visa will be valid for 12 months.
Company sponsored work visa
You can apply for a work visa sponsored by a company if :
- you have a good level of English (IELTS test passed with an average above 5);
- you have found an Australian or foreign company willing to “sponsor” you for a period of 1 to 4 years;
- you have strong skills in an area of the SOL list (“Skilled Occupation List”);
- in the past 24 months, you have worked at least 12 months to a position on the SOL list.
