What does a chief accountant do?
A chief accountant is responsible for applying the accounting and tax procedures of all the services of his company: collection and data analysisdevelopment of Dashboards Management, Annual Review, bookkeeping, tax declarations, etc. He therefore works in conjunction with the banks, the auditor and the chartered accountant.
He must also ensure the reporting to management and prepare the audit of the accounts each year.
A chief accountant is team leader which he manages.

A chief accountant must master the accounting software and know perfectly the accounting standards essential to the exercise of its activity.
This profession requires rigorcapacities ofanalysis and of synthesisa spirit ofinitiative and qualities of management.
The chief accountant is also a communicating : the practice ofEnglish is frequently required.
Salaries and career prospects
The average salary of a chief accountant is 40 K€ gross annual.
Generally, 5 years’ experience in an accounting firm is required to enter the profession.
The chief accountant can progress to the positions of administrative and financial director.
Training to become an accountant
The chief accountant must have a Bac +4/5. It can be a Diploma of Accounting and Financial Studies (DESCF), a Diploma of Accounting and Financial Studies (DECF) or even a Diploma of Accounting and Management (DSCG).
